Want a booth here?

Thousands of people in costume, in one park, all afternoon, in the best mood Davis gets all year. There is no better day to put your business in front of this town, and the money the festival makes builds trikes for children who have never been able to ride one. Bring a booth, run a station, hand out something brilliant. Whatever you are picturing, we probably want it.

The map above is last year's layout, and so is the PDF behind it. This year the festival is Saturday October 31, 11am to 3pm, so please ignore the day and the finish time printed along the bottom of the artwork. The route itself has not changed. The businesses there are handing out candy: TOMO Tea House, Bruxie, Mom's Dumpling, Mikuni Japanese Restaurant, Shabu Shack, Xfinity, and My Burma. Grassy picnic space with tables and chairs, so it is a good place to regroup before you work your way through the rest of downtown.

Practical stuff

What to bring

  • Costume, obviously. Do your makeup at home, or find one of our makeup artists and face painters at Community Park on the day, who may charge a fee.
  • A helmet. California law requires one under 18, and we strongly encourage one at every age.
  • Water bottle, sunscreen (October in Davis is often warm), a bike lock, and cash for merch and food.

Bikes: rentals and repairs

The Bike Campaign and The Bike Garage host this event. They do bike repairs and sell good quality used bikes, so they are the first place to go if you need wheels or need yours looked at.

SPIN is the easy one, and it is why you can come to Davis for this without owning a bike at all. Download the app, unlock a SPIN bike or scooter, and join the parade. There are SPIN bikes at Community Park on the day.

Apex Cycles run the mechanic station on the day. Davis Cyclery and Green Bicycle Depot are worth a call too. Reserve early on Halloweekend.

Getting around, and getting help

Davis is flat, and the route runs on the city’s bike paths and through quiet neighborhoods rather than alongside traffic. That is a large part of why this works as a family ride.

If you need anything on the day, head for Zombie Headquarters at Community Park. That is where the volunteers are. It is marked on the guide map.

Coming with small children

You do not have to do the ride. Plenty of families skip the parade entirely and spend the day at Community Park, where the stations, the food, the bounce houses and the skydiving finale all are. Children under 10 need to be supervised, and there is no charge for any of it.

Weather and the unexpected

The parade rides in light rain. The skydiving finale depends on wind and visibility and can be called off on the day, and the same goes for anything else affected by weather or events outside our control. If something changes we will say so here first. Follow along on Instagram and Facebook the morning of the event.
