The Davis Library has a booth at Community Park and they are handing out candy. Saturday, October 31, through the afternoon. It is staffed by the same people who run the library the rest of the year.
And they keep the library open during the festival. That is worth saying out loud, because it is the single most useful thing at Community Park: real restrooms, a water fountain to refill bottles, somewhere warm and quiet to take a child who has had enough. The branch is right there on East 14th Street, next to the park. Thank you to the library staff who work that day so it can be open.
About the library
The full name is the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library, part of the Yolo County Library. Their mission is one sentence and it is worth reading twice: to provide access for all to ideas that inform, entertain, and inspire. Not to lend books. Access for all.
That shows up in what is in the building. There is yololab, a makerspace full of tools and technology anybody can come and learn on. English conversation clubs and English classes. The Yolo Reads adult and family literacy program, for grown-ups learning to read. Two public meeting rooms any group can book, so long as the meeting stays open to the public. Five study rooms, printing, scanning, computers and wifi for anyone who does not have them at home. For families there is a children's room and an early literacy program built on Every Child Ready to Read, which is really a program that teaches parents how to teach their own children.
They are open seven days a week. yolocountylibrary.org. The Friends of the Davis Public Library run the Logos Books shop nearby, which funds the extras.
