The Skydance Skydiving Grand Finale

The festival's closing spectacle: a team from Skydance Skydiving, flying out of the Yolo County Airport since 1987, drops into Community Park trailing colored smoke, and since 2025, 20-foot flags representing Hallmark Properties' apartment communities. It debuted in 2021 with FAA approval and PRO-rated jumpers, funded that first year by Lawson Youmans of Hallmark Properties and Mathias Klein of Klein Hardwood Flooring.

Emcee Bob Bowen has called the drop from the ground for the past several years, announcing skydivers and sponsors alike to a crowd that, by mid-afternoon, usually numbers in the thousands. The rally band Noise Violation saves its loudest moment for right before the jumpers appear.

Why it takes real training

Landing safely in a crowded public park is not a stunt any skydiver can perform. Skydance's divers went through additional training specifically to earn PRO ratings before the first jump in 2021, a certification that typically requires hundreds, sometimes thousands, of prior jumps. Volunteers from the Davis Scouts and Davis Adventure Society Navigators help keep the landing zone clear on the ground, work that matters just as much as anything happening in the air.
