The Yolo County SPCA brings dogs in costume to Community Park. That is the station. They are dogs who need homes, they are dressed for Halloween, and it is as good as it sounds.
You do not need a dog to come over. Bringing your own, in costume, is very welcome and people do, but it is not what the station is for. It is for these dogs, and for the chance that one of them leaves with somebody.
Who they are the rest of the year
The Yolo County SPCA rescues, fosters and rehomes animals across the county, and they do it without a shelter building. Every adoptable animal lives in a foster home, which as they put it lets them learn about each animal and make the best adoption placements. It is a slower, harder way to run a rescue and it produces better matches, because the person recommending a dog to you has been living with that dog.
They also do spay and neuter work, which is the unglamorous end of animal welfare and the part that actually reduces how many animals need rescuing in the first place.
If you meet a dog you like
Ask about it. The people at this station are the ones fostering these animals, and they will tell you honestly whether a particular dog suits your house, your hours and your patience. If you are not in a position to adopt, they need foster homes, and donations are tax deductible.
