Last September, a costumed crew of Davis zombies stumbled into First Northern Bank's Davis branch mid-Oktoberfest looking for "something good to eat," and the bank was gracious enough to let them stay for the photo.
They are going back. First Northern Bank's 2026 Oktoberfest Social is Thursday, September 24, from 5:30 to 7:00pm, at the bank's Davis branch, 434 Second Street. It is a Davis Chamber of Commerce social: food from Tommy J's, beer and wine, live music and dessert, open to the community.
First Northern Bank has been a fixture of this stretch of Yolo County for a long time. It opened in 1910 in Dixon as Northern Solano Bank, after a group of local farmers decided they wanted a bank that actually knew them, and it is one of only ten banks in California still standing after more than a century. Its Davis branch brought the town its first ATM. That is 116 years of showing up.
It has been showing up for the Chamber's Oktoberfest for years too, and last year's visit from our crew was one of the friendlier ambushes we have pulled off downtown. If a few zombies wander in again this September, that is basically the plan.
