The 7th Annual Zombie Bike Parade Festival is rolling into Davis this October, and one of this year’s most fitting vendors is Blue Pine Coffins. As a top sponsor, they’ll be at Community Park on Saturday, October 26th with their playful and spooky “Coffin Full of Candy” station.
Festival-goers can stop by to grab sweet treats straight from one of their handcrafted pine coffins, while also meeting the owners, Danielle and Dean Newberry. It’s a chance to celebrate Halloween fun, support a beloved community event, and learn about a business that’s as thoughtful as it is creative.

Behind the candy-filled coffin is a company built on respect for tradition, family, and the environment. Blue Pine Coffins crafts simple, elegant pine coffins inspired by the green burial movement. Their designs are not only visually beautiful but also help heal the earth—using locally sourced pine, often from trees impacted by drought or beetles, and assembled with wooden pegs instead of metal fasteners.
This eco-friendly approach makes their coffins ideal for green burials and even compatible with traditional Jewish burial practices. Every design reflects care for the natural world while honoring loved ones in a meaningful way.
Danielle Newberry brings a background as a speech pathologist with over two decades of service at Kaiser Home Health, while Dean recently transitioned from an 18-year solar and radiant business. Together, they’ve brought their dedication to sustainability and community into this unique business.
Their creativity doesn’t stop at the coffins themselves. The couple even developed an electric “coffin car”—a Chevy Bolt with a custom flat-deck elevator system—charged by solar panels and fast-charging stations, underscoring their commitment to clean energy and innovative solutions.
At its heart, Blue Pine Coffins is about blending ritual, artistry, and earth-healing practices. By repurposing local resources and building with care, they provide an alternative that supports both grieving families and the environment.
This October, their participation in the Zombie Bike Parade Festival is a reminder that even in playful, community celebrations, the values of sustainability and tradition can shine through.
